The name of the facility is the Khayelisha Care centre. It is situated on the same premises as the Khayelisha Distribution Centre, 1 km from the Church of Scotland Hospital in Tugela Ferry, KZN
KCC Mission
- To provide quality step-down health care for HIV+ children aged 2-16 yrs who are being initiated on Anti Retro Viral treatment
- To provide a temporary place of safety for children for whom permanent placement is being arranged
- To provide accommodation, care and support for children in times of crisis
The primary purpose of the centre is to provide specified health care for HIV+ children who are being put on anti retroviral treatment and whose immune systems are too severely compromised to survive in the paediatric ward of a hospital.
The centre will also provide temporary placement for children for whom suitable permanent placement is still being prepared or arranged, as well as for children who need to be removed from their homes for the sake of their own safety and well-being.
